Remembering the Late Jerry West

A Basketball Legend

Jerry West, a basketball icon and one of the most respected figures in the sport's history, passed away on March 2, 2023, at the age of 83. Known affectionately as "Mr. Clutch," West left an indelible mark on the game both as a player and an executive.

As a player, West was a 14-time NBA All-Star and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2002. He won an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1972 and was named Finals MVP that year.

After retiring as a player, West became a successful executive. He served as the Lakers' general manager from 1972 to 1979 and again from 1982 to 2002, during which time he helped the team win 11 NBA championships. He was also the Memphis Grizzlies' president of basketball operations from 2012 to 2017.

West's legacy extends beyond his accomplishments on the court. He was a pioneer in the sport, known for his competitive spirit and his innovative approach to the game. He was also a mentor to many young players, including Kobe Bryant, who idolized West.
